Passenger-Initiated Cancellation (Voluntary)

When you cancel your booking voluntarily:

• Refundability depends strictly on the fare family and individual fare rules attached to your ticket.
• Some fare categories return only eligible taxes.
• Refundable fares return the fare component plus eligible taxes minus an applicable cancellation fee.
• Cancellation fees are route-specific and fare-specific; AEGEAN does not enforce one universal fee across its domestic, international, and codeshare flights.
• Voluntary cancellations release your reserved seat; they do not automatically trigger an unconditional cash refund or credit voucher unless your fare rules specify eligibility.

AEGEAN Fare Families: Voluntary Cancellation Framework

Rather than applying a single refund rule across all tickets, AEGEAN structures voluntary cancellation terms by fare family and route conditions:

Cancellation Fees

AEGEAN does not apply a single, flat cancellation fee across its network. In official fare rules, cancellation deductions depend on:

• Route type (domestic Greek flights vs. short-haul international vs. long-haul routes)
• Fare category and booking code
• Whether the itinerary is operated directly by AEGEAN or involves partner/codeshare carriers

Deductions published across various AEGEAN fare tables can vary (for instance, €45, €50, €60, or up to €100 for specific codeshare conditions). No single cancellation fee applies universally to every ticket. Consult the fare breakdown on your booking confirmation or log into your reservation for the exact fee applicable to your itinerary.

Tax Refunds on Non-Refundable Tickets

AEGEAN states that taxes are refundable in full for all tickets, subject to certain government-imposed taxes and country-specific regulations.

• If you hold an unbundled, non-refundable Light fare and voluntarily cancel, you remain eligible to reclaim statutory unused airport and government taxes.
• Fuel and carrier surcharges (often designated as YQ/YR on airline fare breakdowns) may be non-refundable on restricted fare families.
• Tax refund applications for unused tickets can be submitted via the official AEGEAN Online Refund Application.

If AEGEAN Cancels Your Flight

When a cancellation is initiated by the airline, passenger rights are governed by AEGEAN operational policies and European Union Regulation (EC) No 261/2004. Passengers are provided three primary statutory options:

1. Credit Voucher

For eligible cancelled flights, AEGEAN allows passengers to request an airline Credit Voucher:

• The voucher value equals the full purchase value of the unused ticket.
• AEGEAN offers an additional 10% bonus value on the issued voucher.
• Vouchers are redeemable for future flight purchases within 18 months from issuance.
• If the voucher is not redeemed within its validity window, a full monetary refund can be requested.
• This 10% bonus voucher policy applies specifically to eligible airline-cancelled flights; it does not apply to voluntary passenger-initiated cancellations.

2. Complimentary Rebooking

Eligible passengers can be rebooked on alternative flights to their destination under comparable transport conditions at no additional cost. Rebooking after an airline cancellation can be handled via the AEGEAN call center, airport customer service desks, or automated disruption links sent via email/SMS.

3. Full Ticket Refund

If you do not want a credit voucher or rebooking, you have the statutory right to request a full cash refund of your ticket for unused segments. Refunds are credited back to the original method of payment.

EU Regulation 261/2004: Passenger Rights & Compensation

Under EU Regulation 261/2004, passengers departing from an EU airport or traveling on an EU-licensed carrier like AEGEAN have defined legal rights during cancellations and major disruptions.

Care and Assistance

In qualifying disruption situations involving extended waits, airlines are required to provide care:

• Complimentary meals and refreshments in reasonable relation to waiting time.
• Two free phone calls, faxes, or emails.
• Hotel accommodation and necessary ground transfers if the departure is deferred overnight.

Care and assistance are provided based on waiting time and operational circumstances; they do not apply automatically to minor delays or early schedule notices.

Statutory Delay and Cancellation Compensation

Financial compensation under EU261 is not automatic for every cancellation. Statutory compensation tiers are:

• €250 for flights of 1,500 km or less
• €400 for intra-EU flights over 1,500 km and all other flights between 1,500 and 3,500 km
• €600 for all other qualifying flights

Compensation is NOT payable when:

• You were informed of the cancellation at least 14 days prior to departure.
• You received alternate rerouting within narrow departure/arrival windows specified under EU261.
• The airline proves the cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken (such as severe adverse weather, air traffic management slot restrictions, political instability, or external strikes).

No-Show Policy

If you do not travel and fail to notify AEGEAN, change your flight, or cancel before departure and check-in cut-offs:

• Your ticket may be classified as a no-show.
• The impact on the remaining value of the ticket depends on the fare conditions attached to your booking class. Restricted fares forfeit the base fare entirely, while some flexible fares may allow rebooking subject to a no-show penalty fee.
• Subsequent Segments: Failing to board an outbound segment can cause the airline reservation system to cancel downstream return or connecting legs. If an emergency prevents you from taking your outbound flight, contact AEGEAN immediately before departure to protect your remaining itinerary.

Cancel or Change — Which Applies?

Understanding the operational distinction ensures you avoid unnecessary cancellation fees:

Rebooking & Change Deadlines

For voluntary flight modifications, AEGEAN requires that:

• Changes are requested before check-in for the original flight closes.
• The departure of the newly selected flight is at least 1 hour after the time the change is submitted.
• If you have already checked in online, you must cancel your check-in status before modifying your booking.

Managing Cancellations: My Booking vs. Call Center

• AEGEAN My Booking: While travelers can view itineraries, change dates, select seats, and purchase baggage online, AEGEAN states that complete booking cancellations are among transactions handled through its call center.
• AEGEAN Call Center Fee: AEGEAN applies a standard €23 service fee per ticket for certain transactions handled over the phone; however, official fare rules state an exception for ticket cancellations.
• Online Refund Application: For tickets eligible for refunds or unused tax recovery, requests can be filed electronically via the official AEGEAN Online Refund Application form.

Codeshare Flights & Third-Party Bookings

Codeshare Flights

If your AEGEAN itinerary includes a flight operated by another airline (such as a Star Alliance partner):

• The fare rules, cancellation terms, and conditions of carriage of the operating airline may apply to that sector.
• Cancellation fees and change policies can differ significantly from AEGEAN's standard European fare bundles.
• Always check the operating carrier specified on your booking confirmation.

Bookings Made Through a Travel Agent or OTA

• If your ticket was issued by an online travel agency (such as Expedia, Booking.com, or Opodo), corporate travel desk, or tour operator, ticket servicing and voluntary cancellations must generally be processed directly through that agency.
• AEGEAN cannot always process refunds directly for third-party agency tickets until day-of-departure airport control begins.
