Voluntary Passenger Cancellations

Refundability on Finnair depends strictly on whether your ticket was purchased as a restricted or flexible fare:

• Superlight & Light Fares: Strictly non-refundable and non-changeable once issued. In the event of passenger cancellation, the fare and carrier surcharges are forfeited; however, unused airport and government passenger taxes may be claimed back.
• Classic Fares: Permit flight date and time modifications subject to standard change fees plus any difference in airfare. The ticket base fare remains non-refundable in the event of cancellation.
• Flex Fares: Provide maximum travel peace of mind with complimentary flight changes (fare difference applies) and cash refunds back to your original payment method if canceled prior to departure.

24-Hour Cancellation Policy (US Flights)

For flights to or from the United States, Finnair adheres to US Department of Transportation (DOT) consumer protections: passengers may cancel their reservation within 24 hours of purchase for a 100% full refund, provided the booking was made at least 7 days prior to scheduled flight departure.

Airline Cancellations & Travel Disruptions

If Finnair cancels a flight or implements a major schedule change:

• EU Regulation (EC) No 261/2004: Affected passengers are entitled to choose between alternate rerouting to their final destination on the next available flight or a complete cash refund.
• Duty of Care: During extended airport delays, Finnair provides meal vouchers, refreshments, free telephone access, and overnight hotel accommodation with ground transfers when necessary.
• Statutory Compensation: Depending on cancellation advance notice and delay length (and excluding extraordinary weather or air traffic control events), statutory compensation of €250 to €600 may apply under EU law.

No-Show Penalties

Failing to board your flight without canceling your reservation prior to check-in closure results in a no-show. Non-flexible tickets lose their entire value, and all subsequent segments in the reservation are automatically canceled.
