Checked Baggage Allowance

  • For certain international or specific routes, higher weight allowances (e.g. 32 kg / 70 lb) are permitted, but often with overweight fees.

Special Baggage (Sports Equipment, Musical Instruments, etc.)

  • LATAM considers sport, musical, and audiovisual equipment as “special baggage” requiring extra handling or fees.
  • Weight limit: Up to 45 kg (≈99 lb) per piece for many routes; for routes including Argentina, Aruba, Cuba, Europe, Oceania, South Africa or Venezuela, up to 32 kg (≈70.5 lb) per piece.
  • Dimension limit: Those special baggage items often have a maximum of 300 linear cm.

Excess, Overweight & Oversize Baggage

  • If baggage (carry-on or checked) exceeds weight or size limits, excess baggage fees apply.
  • Overweight checked bags (beyond standard limits) are accepted up to certain weights, depending on destination, with a surcharge.
  • Oversized items (beyond standard linear dimensions) are similarly subject to extra charges.

Infants & Special Cases

  • Infants (typically under 2 years old) are allowed one (1) checked bag with standard linear dimensions (158 cm) on many LATAM routes.
  • In addition, certain special items for infants may be permitted in cabin if they fit the carry-on allowance (e.g. a foldable stroller, car seat, bassinet) when space is available.
