LATAM Airlines Baggage Allowance Policy
Baggage AllowanceOverview
- LATAM Airlines baggage policy covers carry-on baggage (cabin luggage), checked baggage, special/sport/music equipment, and excess/oversize / overweight baggage.
- Rules vary depending on cabin class (Economy, Premium Economy, Premium Business), route, fare type, and whether flights are domestic or international.
Carry-On Baggage (Cabin Baggage)
| Component | Details |
|---|---|
| Small bag / personal item | Max dimensions 45 × 35 × 20 cm (includes pockets, wheels, handles) ~ 17.8 × 13.8 × 7.9 in. |
| Carry-on bag | - Economy cabin: up to 12 kg (26 lb). - Premium Economy / Premium Business: up to 16 kg (35 lb). - Max dimensions: 55 × 35 × 25 cm (height + length + width). |
Note: If carry-on exceeds allowed weight or dimensions, it may be required to be checked in, with additional cost.
Checked Baggage Allowance
- Standard checked bags must not exceed 158 linear-cm (sum of length + width + height).
- A typical weight limit is 23 kg (50 lb) per checked piece in many routes and fare classes.
- For certain international or specific routes, higher weight allowances (e.g. 32 kg / 70 lb) are permitted, but often with overweight fees.
Special Baggage (Sports Equipment, Musical Instruments, etc.)
- LATAM considers sport, musical, and audiovisual equipment as “special baggage” requiring extra handling or fees.
- Weight limit: Up to 45 kg (≈99 lb) per piece for many routes; for routes including Argentina, Aruba, Cuba, Europe, Oceania, South Africa or Venezuela, up to 32 kg (≈70.5 lb) per piece.
- Dimension limit: Those special baggage items often have a maximum of 300 linear cm.
Excess, Overweight & Oversize Baggage
- If baggage (carry-on or checked) exceeds weight or size limits, excess baggage fees apply.
- Overweight checked bags (beyond standard limits) are accepted up to certain weights, depending on destination, with a surcharge.
- Oversized items (beyond standard linear dimensions) are similarly subject to extra charges.
Infants & Special Cases
- Infants (typically under 2 years old) are allowed one (1) checked bag with standard linear dimensions (158 cm) on many LATAM routes.
- In addition, certain special items for infants may be permitted in cabin if they fit the carry-on allowance (e.g. a foldable stroller, car seat, bassinet) when space is available.
Dimensions & Weight Summary
- Carry-on baggage dimensions: ~ 55 × 35 × 25 cm.
- Personal item / small bag: ~ 45 × 35 × 20 cm.
- Checked baggage standard linear dimensions: 158 cm (L + W + H).
- Standard checked weight: 23 kg (50 lb) in many fare classes. Premium/route-specific adjustments apply.
Fees & Penalties
- Exceeding any of the allowed baggage limits (weight, size, number of pieces) results in fees.

- Special fees may apply for special baggage (sports gear, instruments) or when combining multiple pieces.
